Opening a new tab for it is a little more convenient in my opinion.

          • TheGameTagerZ

Oh right I was just thinking about the average person. You have a point though.

            • shaddrag

Clearly I’m not the average person, then xD

    • TheGameTagerZ

Click on the image and right click press open in new tab. The image is much bigger than that.

      • Achned Walters

Luffy appears in the cell saga…

This happened long before Onepiece went into serialisation.

        • NZH97

          is this legit lol

          • Achned Walters

It is rumoured that the 2 may have met at the time and Eiichiro may have pitched his ideas which would have been in development at the time.

            I’m sure Toriyama must have encouraged him… while in his manga Cell Shoots Luffy down ^^;

            • NZH97

              what chapter is this btw

        • RAFAEL

How many Anime characters in a manga appear with a that combo?…

    • Yotomoe

I think he’s buddies with the Shaman King guy too.

      • NZH97

Lol. Wish he was friends with the hxh author so he can motivate him to stop taking breaks

    • Pacifierjunkie

He’s also friends with the author of Rurouni Kenshin. There’s even a one piece easter egg in the Kenshin manga.

      • NZH97

lol ik that. Oda was an assistant

  • That’s awesome. Oda and Kishimoto are good friends but seem to be greater rivals.

  • micheal johnson

Thanks, are you guys going to get the guidebook?

    • TheGameTagerZ

Thinking about it, I fear it may eat up too many resources though.

  • True about that. Oda and Kishimoto are nakama/friends/rivals lol.

    • Kogure Yuuya

Please don’t say nakama. You sound a weeb.

      • Gin-san

There is nothing wrong with it, don’t be so overly self-conscious. Japanese is a beautiful language.

        • Buru

He isn’t speaking japanese tho is he?
He is speaking english and putting japanese words in-between.

          • Guest

Yeah and thats the problem. Speak english. Stop mixing it.. its cringey.

            • Buru

              Exactly

            • J Walk

So is your grammar, yet you’re free to forget apostrophes.

              • Buru

Please stop correcting people over the internet -_-
                1.) It’s not cool
2.) Don’t act like you don’t make mistakes

                • J Walk

All I’m saying is that it can be just as easy for someone else to be a jerk to you. If he wants to say a Japanese word, fine. It’s not you who is doing it so don’t try to change it.

                  • Buru

                    I see.

  • Skorm94

would love to read the interview from the guidebook (although translating 13 pages is quite a bit of work I guess)

  • DI

are you gonna translate the guide book?

    • TheGameTagerZ

I personally would love to but it would use up a lot of resources on the translation side. May have to pay the guys more than we usually do to get that done and right now realistically it isn’t something we can do.

But, when we can we will revisit the idea.

      • I know something like that would take time, so if you do do it, I believe most wouldn’t mind you guys to translate it in your own time at your own pace. So if you do decide to do it, take all the time needed for quality but don’t try to burn out for it. Haha.

  • Ahtma

It’s a nice interview, but I still love what my friend said about the end of Naruto.

“Naruto ended as it began – in One Piece’s shadow.”

    • This comment made deadpan and sigh. *Dislike*
      *sigh*

    • Ikki Minami

Naruto was bigger than One Piece for a LONG time and only when it ended did One Piece actually come out on top (Coming from an avid reader of both) look at the popularity on manga sites and the sales naruto was always in the top above OP and Bleach they were the “Big Three” for a long time

      • Buru

That was never the case. One Piece was always topping Naruto in Japan while Naruto was always topping One Piece in US

        • Ikki Minami

          im in the US so…

          • DefCon

One Piece is at 400 million
            DBZ is at 230 million
            Naruto is at 205 million
That is the number of sales ’till date, Globally!
It’s true Naruto is more popular in US, but it never beat One Piece in sales!

          • Buru

So what? that’s not what you wrote above. You should have been more specific, your fault not mine.

      • Gray Aria

Naruto’s triumph over One Piece in the US was purely due to the marketing strategies employed by their respective companies. One Piece still has yet to fully recover from the damage 4kids did to it’s image. A setback that took many years to overcome. If One Piece were handled correctly from the start, the situation in the US would be different. That said, even with all the damage by 4kids, One Piece still manages to have a massive following in the US, just not as big as Naruto’s. But we need to stop acting like the US is the only market that matters. Globally, One Piece completely outclasses Naruto in sales.

        • Ikki Minami

I wasn’t trying to argue or say US is the most important I was just stating the facts from my perspective that Naruto was merely more popular on a global scale than OP was for a very long time being that they had more sales and were number one on a majority of manga websites and even on shonenjump from the beginning until 2008 *cp9 ark* which then skyrocketed the sales for OP and then for the next four years in japan it took over the top spot mainly due to the difference in arks which was cp9 vs prewar ark

P.S I wasn’t trying to get anyone angry so you guys need to both calm down this is merely a comment section not a place to argue so if you intend to do so please take it somewhere else and thanks

          • Gray Aria

Making a lot of assumptions here. No one is angry. Just stating the facts. And comment sections typically are where arguments take place lol

            • Buru

Why do people suddenly come to the conclusion that you’re angry when you go against their point.. -_-

              • Because when you do, you tend to lose all form of friendliness or compassion in your typing, giving the other the impression you are in no joking mood.

                • Buru

                  I see.

          • Buru

            CP9 arc was in 2004 to 2006….
Nothing you’ve said here is true. And what is “Prewar”?

          • Kurae

It was Impel Down arc that boosted the sales of OP and that was just in Japan.
OP became more popular outside Japan because more people started to read it because all the volumes were released 2008-2010

        • Bılly Bauer

“Globally, One Piece completely outclasses Naruto in sales” ???
          manga sales outside Japan

          Dragon Ball – 73 million
          Naruto – 70 million
          One Piece – 45 million

some onepiece fan websites have translated the full interview 13 pages and even Eiichiro Oda admits Naruto is more popular than One Piece outside Japan…

          • Buru

That statement is right because “globally” means the whole world and Japan is part of the whole world. Dunno why people think worldwide means the whole world excluding japan.

          • Gray Aria

When I say globally, I mean including Japan.

      • Tinh Tran

That is one dumb and wrong comment.

  • Masashi Hideaki

I am not trying to wa**, but it made me happy that they both love DB.

    XD *Evil laugh*

Hopefully these amazing mod’s can translate the entire guide, which is also mentioned down below in the early post’s.

    • TheGameTagerZ

Like I told the rest. It will be using up a lot of resources and we pay these guys from time to time out of our own pockets. As much as they would love to read it, translating may be an issue because of how long it is.

  • Hayate Omega ZX

I feel you can really appreciate their works when you can realize how close they are- how they strive to surpass each other, and always give their best. As an avid fan of both One Piece and Naruto, I can say that this interview makes me smile, and makes me want to work hard too.

    • Let all fans and inspiring artists learn from these legendary artists and authors.

  • While I do hold Naruto deeper in my heart, I recognize One Piece is a great series. Now if i just had a faster way to catch up. I’m on Water 7… yeah, that far behind.

  • Kiera

Thanks for this, Oda is great and I don’t watch Naruto but Kishimoto seems a good Friend to him and a great Rival what helped to improve One Piece.
